Tour Eiffel
In 1889, when the Eiffel Tower was inaugurated, it was the tallest building in the world at 300 m. Initially built as a temporary structure to celebrate the centenary of the Revolution and the 1889 Exhibition it was due for demolition immediately after. Since then this steel structure, which defies architectural rules has become the symbol of Paris. In the 20's it was also the radio and telegraphy transmitter, and is now the radio and TV transmitter for Paris and its region.
The 12,000 steel girders are held together by 2,500,000 rivets and it has three viewing platforms: the 1st at 57m, the second at 115m, the third at 276m. The top of the antenna is 320m from the ground. From the 3rd platform you can see Paris and its suburbs, and on a clear day you can see Chartres Cathedral.

Gare Montparnasse
The old station destroyed in 1965 has remained notorious with the image of the locomotive of the Paris-Granville train crashing through the window. The new station in steel and glass is the departure and arrival point for TGV-Atlantique, the suspension cables are a reminder of sailing ships of old.

Puces de Vanves
A super little market
Created in 1920, the Market of the Porte de Vanves has moved twice: once because of the building of low priced housing, then because of the re-arranging of the Périphérique in 1965. Less important than the flea market of St Ouen, this little market is more convivial. It takes place on Saturdays and Sundays. You will find decorative objects and secondhand goods and you can do a good deal. Flea Market / Secondhand Market, Artist's Market, Clothes.

Le Bon Marché
With the reputation of being the only department store on the left bank.
The Bon Marché is a prestigious department store on the left bank. After its renovation a few years ago, it has succeeded in imposing an image of elegance and refinement on Saint-Germain-des-Prés. All justified by a tasteful interior design, a great range of designers and varied range of services. Here you will find fashion accessories, but also very beautiful old watches.
